Seldom do visitors get to glide silently next to basking turtles, get up close to herons and osprey, and experience the thrill of being on the water and immersed in the nature of Presque Isle’s lagoons. But you and your family can during these 2 hour treks into the secluded interior. Suitable for beginners and children accompanied by an adult. Most types of canoes and kayaks can be used. Bring your own kayak or canoe, or rent at the concession.

Kayaking is the perfect way to get up close and personal to the flora and fauna of lakes, rivers and wetlands, and beginners can learn the basics in this introductory course. No previous experience or equipment is required. Topics covered include safety, basic strokes and a bonus eco-paddle to try out your new skills. Spaces limited to 8 participants so register early!

Interested in taking your paddling skills to a higher level? If you answered YES, then you should participate in the Advanced Deep Water Rescues Clinic. The advanced rescue clinic will teach various levels of self and group rescues. This class is targeted at all paddlers who have the basics and are looking to be better prepared. This will be a 2 ½ to 3 hour class with most of the time spent on the water. Paddle, paddle float, and kayaks are required for this course.

Fishing is a historical tradition that has been passed on from generation to generation. Continue this tradition during this week long camp focusing on the recreational sport of fishing and all the elements that make fishing possible. Learn skills such as knot tying, what baits to use, landing fish, and how to fillet and prepare your catch for dinner. Participate in many hands on science and research activities such as electro fishing and seining, etc and travel to a hatchery to learn about the stocking process. Learn from a variety of professionals and life long fisherman, including the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, the PA Fish and Boat Commission, Pennsylvania Sea Grant, the SONS of Lake Erie and more. Participants will also receive fishing equipment to keep! Join the tradition!

Eagles and Osprey soar above, a heron alights in a tree, a beaver glides silently by, turtles slip from logs into the water. You can experience this and more during one of these great expeditions into the interior lagoons of Presque Isle State Park. Boat is limited to 18 passengers, so arrive early!

Kayak Kollege is an incredible opportunity for kids to get into kayaking. Each morning will be spent building paddling skills, such as safety, forward and reverse, sweeps (turning), and easy rescues. Afternoons will be relaxing and water fun, including advanced skill demos, exploring the lagoons, races and water battles - perfect for water-loving kids looking for adventure. Participants must be comfortable around water and have basic swimming skills. All equipment, lunch and snacks provided. Participants will also receive a water bottle and commemorative patch.

Weds-Fri, July 30-Aug 1
Experience all the ways to enjoy the summer, from bird watching, bike safety and beachcombing to pontoon boat cruising and hiking in the woods. Each day will be an active mix of outdoor experiences designed to help kids discover the natural treasures of Presque Isle State Park. There will also be free-play, crafts, nature journals, books and movies scheduled. Kids will get special field tools to take home every day to help them continue the learning in their own backyards and a journal with colored pencils to record their experiences each day.

Advanced paddlers with their own touring/sea kayaks are in for a treat during these guided advanced paddles. Both excursions take participants into more difficult waters, which can be used to help prepare for the Lake Erie Kayaking Sojourn. Lunch will be provided.
