The ride is approximately 10 miles around the loop of the peninsula and is not recommended for young children. Bring your own bike or rent one from the Yellow Bike rental. Outside the Window: Nature for You and Your Little OneSummer is here and we are having lots of fun exploring the park. Children ages 3-5 and an accompanying adult are invited to join us as we discover the wonders of the world “Outside the Window” on the first and third Fridays of August from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Through books, crafts and outdoor activities, we will discover what it is like to Be a Scientist on August 6th. We will be outside, so please dress appropriately for the weather. Meet at the Rotary Pavilion on August 6th. Registration required, $3 per child.

Paddleboard 101Discover this new recreational sport that has ancient Hawaiian roots. Participants will get a skill and safety overview and have an opportunity to paddle using loaner equipment. Guest instructor, Jeff Jones from Elements Boardshop will take beginners of all ages and help them enjoy paddleboarding at Sunset Point. Openings are limited, children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent. Registration required, all ages, no fees. Meet at Sunset Point

Beach Glass Drilling Join guest instructor, Julie Pazun, at the Tom Ridge Environmental Center for a fun day of jewelry making. Participants will be guided in using tools and proper techniques of beach glass drilling. Participants will have the opportunity to make their own necklace and set of earrings. This class is open to participants 16 years and older. Space is limited and classes fill up quickly. *Pre-registration with payment is required to participate in this program. If participants are unable to attend the program, the payment for program is non-refundable. Feel free to bring your own beach glass! Pre-registration is required by Thursday, August 5th, ages 16 and up, $55 fee.

Don’t forget your binoculars and beach glass collection bags for this soothing morning hike along Presque Isle’s fabulous beaches. Learn about the unique habitats of the Lake Erie Shoreline, search for beach glass and spy through binoculars at shore birds. No fees or registration. Meet at Stull Center parking lot.

Purple Martin Overnight CampEach year, tens of thousands of purple martins congregate around Presque Isle State Park in preparation for their long migration south.  Come explore the Purple Martins of Presque Isle on this overnight camp out on the park.  Join the Purple Martin Conservation Association (PMCA) staff and naturalists from Presque Isle State Park to discover the unique activities of the Purple Martins as they ready themselves for their migration south.  Friday evening includes viewing the purple martins staging at Beach 11 and experiencing the purple martins roosting on the cattail islands at the head of the bay either by kayak or from Vista 1 parking lot.  Participants will camp overnight at Beach 11.  Saturday morning will include watching the purple martins leave the roost at sunrise and breakfast catered by the Sunset Cafe.  . Registration required, cost $15 includes breakfast, all ages welcome.  If kayaking, participants must bring there own kayak and equipment; a pfd and a 360 degree light are required.

Evening StargazingJoin guest presenter, Jim Gavio, from the Erie Planetarium and observe the Perseid Meteor Shower.  Discover how it came to be called the Perseid and why meteor showers occur each year at the same time.  Bring something comfortable to sit/lay on and some bug spray.  Dress appropriately for the outdoors. Cost $1 per person, no registration.

A Duck's LifeCome one, come all to discover a bird that waddles, quacks, and feeds upside down. Join a naturalist at Presque Isle State Park to learn more about ducks. Meet at Beach 11 at 10:00 AM and not only learn about ducks but actually get a chance to see them in their natural habitat. Binoculars and field guides will be provided along with a few other surprises. No fees or registration are required. Families of all ages are welcome.

This will be a relaxing paddle of sights and sounds of the park. Bring your own kayak or canoe, paddle and pfd or rent one from the livery. Meet at the Lagoon Launch at 9:00 am. Rise and Shine RideNature gets up early, so should you.  Join a naturalist for this early morning bike ride around the peninsula.  Participants will be biking the entire 13.5 mile Multi-purpose Trail designated as a National Recreation Trail.  Exercise, relax and enjoy the nature of Presque Isle before all the hustle and bustle of the day begins.  Bring your own bike.  No fee.  No registration required.
